Peace. This is one of the most famous topics for politicians. They talking about “world peace” very much. In my opinion, every person must talk about peace. A lot of organizations persuade to keep peace. One of those organizations is NATO. It is a political and military organization which was established in 1949 in Washington. NATO aims at providing security, freedom and peace to its member countries. Now NATO counts 26 countries.
Poland was admitted to NATO in 1999, and the surveys suggest that now most Poles consider our country a safer place to live in.
In the 19th and the 20th century the population of the Earth rose sixfold. The growth of population caused growth of demographic problems. They are not easy to solve. It seems that the most important thing is to fill the gap between the developing and developed nations. Demographic problems cause aggressive behaviors among members of the societies. I think, the governments of the developing countries should devote their energy to set more family – planning centres, educate teenagers at school on the methods of birth control, and guarantee better access to contraceptives.
How we see ourselves is the primary factor in how we are likely to treat others. Wars of aggression are almost never accompanied by ill – will of invading ordinary people. Russians have truly been – and still are – convinced they have been surrounded and have to defend themselves. For this reasons, they had a ready excuse to not only go to Afghanistan, but also more faraway countries like Vietnam or Angola. The Chinese terse proverb ”chongwen men hao”. ”The Chinese are good” offered a ready path to the same complacency necessary to invade Tibet. America’s wars have always been too easily explained by its pronounced will to maintain peace, democracy, stability. With Iraq, some European nations short – sightedly would rather jump on the bandwagon of today’s winners than twice of longterm ramifications of their present decisions. All too often, and not surprisingly, of the future is exiled from common attitudes of today. The war in Chechnya is a perfect example of purely psychological factors at play. Chechnya has no natural resources to speak of. The country plays no significant role in Russia’s strategic position. For centuries, Chechens have invariably been hostile to their all too powerful neighbours. All In all, Chechnya would be the best thing for Russia to get rid of. Why it may never materialize, and why the war has to go on, is an upshot of common people. First, Chechnya has always been an instrument in the Russian government’s powerplay to secure obedience and support of their own people. Bomb explosions in Russian cities have been mentioned as one way to secure precisely that. Secondly, the breakaway republic served as a tool, an example, for the Russian government to draw the line for those who might ever want to opt out the Russian empire and stop further disruption of its territory. The Russians still want their empire back; it may have offered then no good materially in the past, but has always been the source of their pride, dignity, and even identity. The list may continue on and on. Governments may often choose to stick to their hidden agendas, but all the same, they would be helpless if they one way or another could incite no popular feelings of support for their typically ill – advised decisions. There will be no lasting peace until and unless we realize our fallacies are to be paid by real blood and real lives.
