The person which influenced my life most is Elvis Presley.
I’ve first heard about Elvis when I was five; before that I heard some of his most famous songs, but didn’t know who was singing them. When I saw a video of Elvis on stage on TV on his birthday anniversary – I instantly knew he was the man I admire most.
Soon afterwards I got to know him better; his songs, his biography. I admired and still admire Elvis for his life’s story – a poor boy from the province, who, only thanks to his own talent, determination and character reached the very peak of society, becoming the biggest pop-culture star in history. I admire Elvis for the way he lived after becoming rich and famous – not many people are aware of some little facts only his biggest fans know about. For example: once Elvis’s daughter, Priscilla- five years old at the time, was playing in the garden in Graceland. Her father came, and she said “daddy, I’d like to play in the snow so much” – it was June… Elvis lifted his daughter off from the ground, went straight to the car, drove to the airport, and flew on his private jet to the mountains of Montana. He played in the snow with his daughter for half an hour and flew back home. They were home by supper. It is also common knowledge, that Elvis used to share everything he had when he was a child, always sharing his toys with his friends, although he was very poor. When he grew up, he gave away cadillacs. Hundreds of them.
Another fantastic episode disclosing his character to us is his enrolment in the army. When Elvis had to serve his time in the US army, he already was a rock ’n’ roll superstar. Hundreds of thousands of teens were ready to go to the streets all around America to stop Elvis’s enrolment. But Elvis said ‘no’. He decided to serve his country and go to the army like any other man of his age.
Another characteristic: Elvis, in contrast to many other idols and superstars – had only one wife. And what other music star has his own church? Yes, Elvis is treated by some as a messiah of God – if you want to know more, go to www.elvisunderground.org
Elvis’s own style, character and the legend that grew over him make many people believe he’s still alive. A legend like Elvis just can’t die – many people try to prove that literally.
You may like his songs or not, but you can’t dislike Elvis. And even if you dare dislike him, you have to appreciate him. If you don’t, it only means you don’t really know him.
Elvis was surely the most charismatic character in history, and… he still is!
Hail to the King!
