It was a warm summer night in July. The air was still. The bright moon was high in the clear sky. The only sound that the policeman could hear was the sound of his own footsteps. Green Street was quiet. There were no lights in any of the windows. All the inhabitans were asleep. The young cansteble looked at his watch. It was half past two in the morning. He hadn’t been a policeman for very long and this was his first partol alone. Until that night an older policeman had come on duty with him. Now, the young policeman had been sent out on patrol alone. He had become a real policeman at last.
Half past two. At three o’clock he would have to return to the police station to make his report. After that , he would be able to go off on duty. Then he could do home. His first night as a real policeman was coming to the end.
He walked on slowly and watched the street carefully. When he was at the beginning of the street he saw a big black car parked outside the house number 3. He made a note of its number-KCL977X. The doors of the car were all locked. Suddenly the lantern’s lights went aut. He stopped and looked at the car and the house. It was a big confortable-looking place.He moved on. He had walked a few meters past number 3 . He saw two men , who were getting out the car. They were sressed in black aueralls. He knew it was the criminals’ car. He began to feel afraid. The policeman drew out a gun. When one of the criminals heard a noise behind him. He had turned round and saw him “Copper” he showend. The young policeman knew he was in trouble. When the burglars tried to pull out its gun, the policeman shot at them. After he had overpowered them he colled for help. His first patrol drew to a close. He was proud of hinself “You’re a good policeman “ said his superior.
