There are many stereotypes of Poles on the world. For example: people in Germany think Poles are thiefs, and they steal their cars. They also think, of Poland as a backward country. French think Poles are drunkards.
These are characteristics of Poles created by particular nations. But how are we seen by whole world?
Most common stereotype is a Pole-catholic. It came from the times of annexation, when the Germany, Russia and Austria took Poland's lands with people who lived there. The Russia and Germany wanted to change civilians' religion to orthodoxy or protestantism. The Poles didn't want do change neither nationalnity nor religon, that's why Poles are percived as catholisc and as patriots. This is main Poles' stereotype that exists until present. In the late 80s the stereotype of Poles as enemies (caused by comunism, and Iron Curtain) started to change, in media in western countries we were shown as fighters for freedom, and that was very positive. But unfortunetly it started to change. Polish men started to be seen as people in grey clothes with mustaches.
Nowadays it's getting better again and Poles are changing their picture in the western countries, becouse young, intelligent, well-educated, skilled people are migrating from Poland to other countries showing how they really are.
