“Bridget Jones ‘s Diary” is a romantic comedy directed by Sharon Maguire. It is a story based on Helen Fielding’s book which became a bestseller all over the world.
It is set in present-day England. The main character is Bridget Jones, a woman in her early thirties. She is constantly on a diet, smokes cigarettes and drinks a lot of alcohol. It is a normal woman who writes her experiences down in a diary. She is lonely and still looking for a man. Bridget is keen on her boss and does everything to draw his attention. At the New Year’s Eve she decides to start a new, great life. Will she find a real love? And who is Mark?
Renee Zellweger, who had played Bridget, became a star after this film. She was absolutely perfect as Bridget Jones, that is why people thought about her as if she was Bridget. This role cost her a lot of work and selfsacrifices. She had to put on weight a few pounds. It was worth it. Million of women identify with Bridget Jones. There also played movie stars who are always perfect - Hugh Grant, who brings his own humour to his role and Colin Firth, even-tempered, but funny, too.
The filming is imaginative with good comic scenes, for example when Bridget comes to her family’s party in bunny’s costume. However, some of the scenes shows nudity and the film should not be watched by children. A piece of advice – don’t watch it with your grandparents, too!
To sum up, “Bridget’s Jones Diary” was the funniest movie event in 2001 and a masterpiece of great storytelling. It was nominated for Oscar. This film is mostly for women but even squeamish men will love this comedy and laugh till tears come.
