Euthanasia

The problem of euthanasia raises a great deal of controversy. Some people claim that it is inherently wrong while others strongly support the idea. Both views should be taken into account when considering the possibility of making it legal. I am rather against euthanasia.

The supporters of euthanasia say that it can cause more good than harm to the patient, the family, and to the whole of society. It can be argued that everyone should be given the right to decide about his or her life and death. For many terminally ill patients euthanasia is the only chance to relieve suffering and serve pain. Some people hate to live in a permanent vegetative state without any human dignity. When viewed from this perspective, euthanasia isn’t a deliberate act of killing, but rather an act of mercy and, therefore, should be allowed.

Catholic patients, who belive in life after death, can face a moral, religious dilemma for the sake of euthanasia. They treat life as highest value, as a gift from God. He gave it and only he can take it away. It’s said that Catholic should sacrifice their suffering to any other person.

Some people argue that those patients who have absolutely no chances of recovery should be put to death because they are a tremendous financial burden on the whole of society. They claim that the money spent on sustaining their lives should rather be spent on those who have more chances for improvement.

The opponents of euthanasia are of the opinion that it’s everyone’s natural right to continue living. Therefore, making euthanasia legal would promote a lack of respect for human life. They also claim that although modern medicine is undeniably progressing, it doesn’t possess complete knowledge.

Another argument against euthanasia is ethical in nature. Many doctors face a conflict between the duty to sustain life and the obligation to relieve suffering. However, suffering is a natural part of everyone’s life and when viewed from this perspective, doctors who agree to inflict death may simply be called murderers.

In my opinion family has got very important influence on life of every terminally ill patient. By visiting they show that he’s loved, he’s needed. Sick person must feel accepted.

In conclusion I’d like to say that I don’t approve euthanasia. I belive that God gave life to each of us and only he can take it away. It’s an interference in our nature. I think that governments can legalize euthanasia cause consequences can be destructive.
