Staying at home to do your work becomes more and more popular recently. Not only is it an escape from employer's sight but also serves as a good solution for newly self-employed. Working from home has both advantages and disadvantages.
To begin with, while working from home you have flexible working hours. You gain the possibility to divide the workload as you wish and nobody can judge you when you constantly take breaks as long as you are working.
Secondly, it saves you a lot of time and money. Instead of commuting early in the morning you can eat a breakfast with your family. Working from home is also a great idea for parents who cannot afford a daycare or a babysitter.
On the other hand, such position may give you a sense of isolation. Not having a direct contact with friends from work may cause you to feel secluded or you may miss important events at work.
Finally, home may affect your concentration. Have you ever wanted to watch a movie on the sofa but you kept picking up clothes or your kids were running around the table and screaming? If you cannot push the distractions away, then working from home is not for you.
To conclude, in my opinion advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Despite the fact that you may feel isolated from the workplace's atmosphere, working from home gives you an opportunity to see your family more often or even babysit while working.
