HOW TO SAVE OUR PLANET

What can be done to save the planet? Nowadays, we face a lot of problems that are connected with our environment. However, I would like to concentrate on the basic issues and solutions to them.
What first came to my mind was deforestation. Forests are the lungs of the Earth. These forests are oxygen-providers for the whole planet as well as the most efficient natural absorbent of CO2. The destruction of the forests is regarded as the most notorious act of environmental vandalism. It has to be stopped. In my opinion the forests should be given special protection. People who try to cut trees should be punished.
What is more, there is a disturbing increase in the number of factories. These factories are contaminating many rivers and green areas. People have to fight for clean water for their offspring so that they can benefit of pure water. If water is dirty, fish will die and future generations will be deprived of fresh fish and fish products. Such factories should face high fines and prosecutions.
I also have to mention rubbish, which is a very serious problem. Apart from glass, there is almost no recycling : in fact, all the other things that people throw away are taken to rubbish tips. In the summer, the smell from these tips is terrible. What is more, it attracts millions of flies. I would like to emphasize the importance of recycling all recyclable products. How can this be achieved?. For instance, we could organize competitions between local schools to see who can collect the most rubbish. In this way, children will learn how important recycling is and will involve their families too.
Another issue which should be looked at is the increasing number of cars in cities. They emit an enormous amount of toxic fumes that we breathe in everyday. That is why we should use our cars as rarely as possible and switch to other means of transport, such as trains or the underground, whenever possible.
To sum up, I feel that the state of our planet is one of the most important issues that we are facing today. We should do everything we can to ensure that future generations will be both aware of and sensitive to the problem of environmental protection. The more proposals, there are, the more people will do about it. Basically speaking the planet’s future depends on us.
