Generally speaking, the dieting is a way of nutrition. It is very often used as a slimming diet. Nowadays people like to be on a diet. They think being slim is the most important thing in life or they don’t accept their bodies. Sometimes people can do everything in order to be slim, regardless of consequences. In other words, dieting has both its advantages and disadvantages.
Firstly, proper nutrition is essential for us. We must eat enough calories per day and a lot of nutrients - for example, vitamins, minerals and proteins. In fact, they really have good influence our competences at work or school and our skin, hair and nails.
Moreover, diets are inspired by different cuisines. People can’t survive without nourishment. Eating can be funny. The wide range of various types of dishes and foods make our food pleasurable. Foreign cuisine can give us a change from our usual eating. We also should make dishes colourful.
Besides that, some diets bring important health benefits. Very often we have to follow a particular diet for medical reasons. Sometimes it is life-supporting. For example, vegetarians, people who don’t eat meat have a lower risk of diabetes and death from heart disease. It is good to be on a reasonable diet because we are healthier then.
On the other hand, diets are not suitable for everyone. A diet which was successful for one person may not be so good for another. It can be simply harmful for another. Now it is obvious why we have got so wide range of diets – some of them just don’t work normally.
However, the media support weight prejudice. All of them present models as the ideal. They should be slim and have got perfect bodies. Normal people, especially woman think they aren’t like them. It makes them unhappy and force to go on a diet. They don’t know that these bodies are very often the results of plastic surgery or something like that.
In addition to, dieting may lead to some problems. Nowadays people have got a lot of psychological and neurological eating disorders like nervosa, bulimia or anorexia. They are often causes by stress and conflicts. People want to be stronger and they think stronger means slimmer.
In conclusion, dieting is good for us and our health but it must be reasonable. We should watch what we eat but without any exaggeration.
