A masterpiece you can’t miss
Mysterious, frightening and perfectly written, I thoroughly enjoyed Macbeth, one of the best Shakespeare’s masterpieces. The story takes place in Scotland and the plot centres on determination of Macbeth who wants to become the king at all costs.
The book opens with a description of the situation in Scotland just after the crucial battle. Macbeth and his friend Banquo meet three witches who foretell royal future for Macbeth. The main character starts doing everything to realise prediction. The first thing he does is killing the lawful king of Scotland whose name is Duncan. It is important that he is controlled by his wife Lady Macbeth who is a convincing and ruthless person. After that Macbeth commits another brutal murder, he is responsible for killing Banquo. Lady Macbeth becomes mentally ill and as a result she commits suicide. Macbeth is put in extremely difficult situation that can’t deal with. Consequently, Duncan’s son and wealthy lord form opposition against Macbeth as the king of Scotland. The army of Malcolm and Macduff attacks the castle where Macbeth resides. Macduff wins over the king in the fight one on one. Eventually, Malcolm becomes the new king of Scotland and promises better times and justice.
One of the things I liked best about the book, apart from brilliant language which was used by Shakespeare, was the fact that during reading Macbeth I completely didn’t know what was going to happen next. That was really amazing that I read this book in one evening, I just didn’t want to put it away on my shelf. If you once take it in your hands, you will read the whole book. My only criticism of it is about too much murders in the plot. It is obvious that it is only fiction but Shakespeare could write in more gently way.
All in all, though, if you’re a fan of dramas, especially those written by Shakespeare, you’ll love this book. And if you’re not, I would still recommend it because Macbeth profoundly put us in the Middle Ages and let us get to know how people think in these times. It also teaches us how manipulating other people could be dangerous and hazardous.
