I really enjoyed watching Perfume : The Story of a Murderer. The character played by Ben Whishaw ( Jan Baptiste Grenouille - a young man born to poverty in the slums of 18th-century Paris. He has an extraordinary talent, at once animal and superhuman, for smell ) was very far-out.
The plot was quite sophisticated. Grenouille can detect and distinguish smells for miles, because of his through fierce cunning and rodent survival instinct. He wanted to create the perfect scent of a woman's body that will make him fully human - alchemy for which he will need 13 beautiful female corpses so he becomes a mass murderer. He creates perfumes based on pheromones that powerfully to manipulate human emotions. In Paris, Grenouille approaches a group of low-life people (thieves, murderers, whores, etc), who do not notice him approaching. He deliberately douses himself with the perfume he created, while among the group. Overcome with desire, they tear him to pieces and devour the remains. They feel slightly disgusted having just eaten a human being, but they feel overwhelmed with happiness. He was uncommonly proud. For the first time he had done something out of Love. "Love" is deliberately capitalized which is open to interpretation. Naturally He remain convicted and put to death for his Crimes.
Everybody who likes psychological horror story should watch Perfume : The Story of a Murderer, because it isn’t typical dull film with predictable plot. Watching this film we could take a peek into our living daylights and see hidden misgiving. Maby somebody will Discovery they own murderous soul.
