Turism for some people is one of the most exiting activity in the world. It broadens our horizons. We have an opportunity to meet some interesting people, explore foreign places, know fascinating traditions.
We can travel by bus, train, airplane, our private car or hitch-hike. We can organize our travel ourselves or buy it from travel agencies. In 2007, there were over 903 million international tourist arrivals, with a growth of 6.6% as compared to 2006.
Wealthy people have always traveled to distant parts of the world. As long ago as the time of the Roman Republic, places such as Baiae were popular coastal resorts for the rich. Many elaborate villas were built in Baiae, including those of Julius Caesar and Nero.
Leisure travel was associated with the industrialisation of United Kingdom ? the first European country to promote leisure time to the increasing industrial population.

Reasons for travel include:
1.Visiting friends and family 2.Trade 3.Commuting (which is the process of travelling between one's place of residence and regular place of work or education). 4.Tourism? is travel for recreational or leisure purposes.
We can divide the needs for tourism into 5 categories:

1. The mood. Some people go away to relax, just to feel better, or they want the prestige.
2. Need for speed and adventure. - There's an emphasis on outdoor or other sporting activities such as hiking, cycling, climbing or scuba diving. Some travelers claim that traveling with certain airlines is the best kind of extreme sport.
3. The need for a real freedom, need for escape from everyday life.

People usually travel because of their

4. Need to meet people and make new friends and as a result have some new connections.
And they want to
5. Experience other cultures ? when people lay an emphasis on history and past culture, including visiting museums, archaeological sites or old , forts etc. or people want to experience how the "locals" live their live. Culture seekers are less interested in staying in tourist resorts.

In my opinion both ? meeting new people and experience other cultures are essential for fun and productive recreation.
Making social connections is important to our quality of life. When we meet new people we increase our chances for making friendships and connections that provide companionship, intellectual stimulation, humor, support, and joy. Most of us know from experience that having good friends can make our lives richer, but research now shows that our friends may also increase our longevity. According to the research people with extensive networks of good friends and confidantes outlived those with the fewest friends by 22 percent. I think it is because having friends and familiars, we have constant support and some reliable people next to us and it is extremely important to our psychical well-being. That is why meeting new people is so significant and makes our lives better and make us feel happier.
The other side of the coin is that not every one of our potential friend or familiar is upright and have honest intentions. There are some bands who purposely seek people willing to get to know someone new and when they win their victims confidence, they borrow or steal money, induce them to visit clandestine sect?s rituals, try to make their victims dependent. It is safe to say that making friends is favorable provided that we are cautious and don?t trust new people on the spot.
Sightseeing is the result of the growing popularity of teaching and learning of knowledge and peoples? curiosity. A lot of people have a will to gain knowledge about other traditions and cultures, and the main focus of the tour or leisure activity includes visitation of another country to learn about the culture of the visited countries. Sighseeing is also a fine introduction to a history of the places we visit. It is relaxing and a lot of tourists chill out better while sightseeing than while laying on the beach. The biggest budget drain when it comes to sightseeing is organized tours, which can sometimes run even a few hundred euros per person, so people prefer to go on their own (just find a good map, a good brochure or guidebook that mentions the destinations they want to see), instead of hiring a live human tour guide.

Tourism is going to be even more interesting since technological improvement is likely to make possible air-ship hotels, Underwater hotels, such as Hydropolis, expected to open in Dubai in 2009, will be built and floating cities.

There are more than 100 castles, abbeys, Roman ruins and prehistoric monuments. These are just a few:
? Battle Abbey and the 1066 Battle of Hasting battlefield with its fabulous new visitor center
? Stonehenge l
? Down House, the home of Charles Darwin, in Kent
? Tintagel Castle, connected by legend to King Arthur
? Whitby Abbey - where Count Dracula came ashore
? Hadrian's Wall
? Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island
? I would visit the Madame Tousseau Wax Figures Museum
