My favorite book from Polish, obligatory ones is a novel written by Bolesław Prus. It?s rather a love story. ?Lalka? is set in Warsaw (for a short time in Paris too). It tells the story of some man- Stanisław Wokulski who loves really beautiful, capricious and inaccessible woman, her name is Izabela.

The story begins with a big Stanisław?s comeback. He comes to Poland from a war to his friend and he says that he earned lots of money abroad. Than he meets Izabela and he tries to make a really good impression on her. He quite quickly falls in love. The plot evolves around this unattainable feeling. Stanisław is a normal bourgeois, so he isn?t allowed to go to the upper class- Izabella is a gentlewoman. It?s a story about very unhappy and tragic love, he does everything that she wants and sometimes it makes him hopes against hope.

The plot is quite dramatic, but on the other hand it?s fascinating too. Stanisław wants to be with Izabela, and even if se wants too, they aren?t allowed to be together. It?s really brilliantly written, but the number of pages can be terrifying, especially for the people who don?t like reading.

I my opinion you shouldn?t miss it. I think that it?s still a ht in spite of that it?s quite an old novel. If you don?t like spending free time on reading I can recommend the movie ?Lalka? too, maybe after watching you?ll be convinced that it?s a work which is well worth reading.
