Gdynia is situated on the Baltic. It lies on the Bay of Gdańsk. The site was carefully chosen. This lovely coastal town is one of Poland’s three seaports. The port of Gdynia was the first Baltic port to service large ships.
It is clean and rich city. Various things can confirm this. You can see it when you walk down the streets. But as in every other town, not only in Poland but throughout the world, you can also see signs of poverty.
Town is one of the sunniest towns in Poland. Most tourists come here in May and in June when the weather is at its best.
Gdynia was developed in a place favoured by nature. Here we find resources of underground waters, forests and clean air.
Gdynia has five museums. In the museum of the city of Gdynia there is a permanent exhibition of its history, of course including its links with the sea. The Oceanographic Museum is one of the most frequently visited.
Other most famous attractions: “Błyskawica” – a warship famous for its action during the Second World War and “Dar Pomorza” – a famous training sailing ship.
Those interested in the history of Polish sea battles really must visit the Museum of the Navy which is set alongside Gdynia’s boulevard – a favourite promenade.
A lot of galleries and art shops can be found in Gdynia. Here you can buy works of modern art and much more.
All of the residents of Gdynia – which is another yet characteristic of the people living here – identify themselves very strongly with the city. They are proud of it. Few would want to live elsewhere – even if in the most beautiful part of the world.
