WALES

1. HISTORY
Wales had a long history. The Welsh people where always determined to be independent instead of being ruled by many other nations. For many years they had been invaded and controlled by many nations, such as Vikings and Saxons. King Arthur was a very improtant figure in the history of Wales he helped the Welsh defeat the Saxons. In 1536 Wales was united with England, after giving Edward I King Arthur's son the of title of the Prince of Wales.

2. LANGUAGE
Welsh, a Celtic language is very different from English. It is one of the oldest languages in Europe.
The British government made English the official language.
Welsh is also an official language – it is taught in school and there is a Welsh in school and there is a Welsh language TV channel.
In XIX centurie and first half of XX centuries the Welsh language declined.

3. CULTURE
In Wales, every year ‘eisteddfods’ are held around the county. ‘Eisteddfods’ is a meeting of poets and singers who take park in competition.
Famous actors include Richard Burton, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta – Jones.
Wales has produced important poets in English such as Dylan Thomas ad R.S Thomas. Wales is a musical nation and choirs are important.

4. SYMBOLS OF WALES
The flag of Wales, with its red dragon, is one of the oldest in the world. The patron saint of Wales is St. David. The leek is another symbol of Wales.
According to legend St. David ordered his solders, to wear on their helmets before the Welsh fought a victorious battle over the Saxon.

5. SOMETHING ABOUT CAPITAL
Cardiff is a capital of Wales.
It is an attractive and interesting place to live in, with good communications, plenty of parks and varied population.
There is also a beautiful castle, cathedral, and the national museum of Wales.
