Henryk Sienkiewicz was a famous Polish writer. He was born in 1846. Henryk was from in Wola Okrzejska, a town in Russian-ruled Poland. Because of economic difficulties, the family sold their rural property and moved to Warsaw. He studied law and medicine, and later history and literature. While a student he started to write newspaper columns. Among Sienkiewicz's other major literary works are: ‘The Teutonic Knights’, ‘In Desert and Wilderness’, ‘Quo Vadis’, ‘After Bread’, ‘Letters From America’, The Trilogy: ‘With Fire and Sword’, ‘The Deluge’ and ‘Fire in the Steppe’. He died in 1916.
