My story is very terrible and very interesting. It is about moving coffins in a grave in Barbados. It was only discovered in September 1812 in a family grave of Tom Chase. In the family crypt of Chase Tom was also buried. His coffin was made of lead and was one tonne. After the crypt was opened the group of people present at the funeral was horrified. They saw, that two of three coffins put in the crypt lay in disarray.

The first coffin of Tomasin Goddard buried in 1807, was skew propped against the wall. Next to it upside down was lying the small coffin of Mary Chase, who died in 1808 at the age of two. Both coffins were made lead. The only coffin which wasn`t replaced was the wooden coffin of Dorcas Chase, buried in July of 1812.

After the coffins were put in order, the coffin of Tomas Chase was put into the grave. The grave entrance was barred with a marbel plague and bricklayed. The matter of the crypt was forgotten. It started again on 25th September of 1816. It was then, when Samuel Brewster Ames was buried at the age of 13 months.

Again after the grave was opened morning people could see the coffin thrown across the grave. Even the coffin of Tomas carried by ten man wasn`t there, where it should be. Untouched was only the coffin of Dorcas. Next time the episode repeated during the funeral of Samuel Brewster Senior father of the boy buried earlier. This man was killed during slaves rebel in April of 1816. Because of fightings he couldn`t be buried in the family grave.

His dead body was put into a grave of St. Philip.
After the insurrection it was possible to move his body to his family grave. At this time the issue of moving coffins was well known on the island, so at the funeral came a lot of gaping spectators. The lid was raised and well known picture can be seen; coffins in disarray. With one exception the rotten coffin of Dorcas. The coffins were put in order and the coffin of Samuel Senior added.

The governor of Barbados ordered to set them in former places and the beach sand was sprinkled around them, in order to catch a coming burgler. The grave was sealed. During last nine months nobody was buried in a strange grave so the governor wondered what was going there. After the sealed grave was opened, there was the same sight; the scattered coffins and no footprints on the sand.

There was a happy end after the coffins were moved into another grave. The Chase`s crypt is empty and until now and nobody knows what really has happened there.
