England

England is the largest and the richest country of Great Britain . The total area is 130 500 sq km and it is 57 % of the whole island. In England live 49 100 000 people and for all of this people main language is English. The capital city is London. England consists of 4 parts: the south of England, the east of England, the heart of England and the north of England.
The most famous English river is The Thames (215 miles long). But The Severn is the longest river (240 miles long). The highest point is Scafell Pike.
The famous places in England are:
- The Lake District is a lovely region of lakes and mountains in Northwest England. There we have the largest lake- Windermere ,
- Stonehenge is one of the most famous prehistoric places in the world. This ancient circle is made with massive blocks 4 meters high. Some people think, that this place is so mysterious, because it was used for pagan ceremonies ,
- South Downs and North Downs ,
In England we have many interesting and famous cities:
- York , it was built by the Romans. In this city we have the largest Gothic Cathedral north of the Alps ,
- Chester, there is a famous toy museum which contains over 5000 ancient and modern toys, and a dolls’ hospital where doll and teddy-bears are restored and repaired ,
- Oxford is the home of the oldest university of England,
- Cambridge is the home of the second oldest university of England ,
