“Tango” is the title of the play written by Sławomir Mrożek, 20th century playwright and draftsman. I had the opportunity to attend the performance two weeks ago in the theatre “Teatr Zagłębia” in Sosnowiec thanks to my Polish teacher who organized the school trip. It features popular Polish actors and an up-and-coming, already award-winning actress Agnieszka Okońska as Ala.
The main topic of the play is the generation gap between the young medicine and philosophy student and the rest of his family. The parents, Eleonora and Stomil, have already broken all the rules and live a completely disorganized life. The main character, from whose perspective the story is shown, struggles to stop the chaos at home and convert family's behaviour to more reasonable one.
In my opinion the casting was splendid. Every character has been acted out with a great dose of uncommon theatrical skills. The storyline consists of many plot twists that can make the audience feel a little unsettling but the irony and humour makes up for every inconvenience. The decorations in the back of the stage were not only well made but also perfectly suited the atmosphere of characters' house.
All things considered, I would highly recommend this interpretation of Mrożek's “Tango” to everyone who is interested in seeing an amazing piece of acting and everyone willing to spend an evening with pleasure and humour.
