The United States of America is a federal republic consisting of fifty states. Each of these states has its own government which is called “the state government”. The rules for this structure proclaimed in 1787 in Philadelphia. The government is divided into three branches.

The Executive Branch is headed by the President. The president has many responsibilities. He suggests bills to Congress, serves as Commander-in-Chief of the military and appoints many officials. He also appoints the members of the Cabinet. Only a person who is at least 35 years old and is a natural-born citzen of the USA may be elected President.

The second branch is the Legislative Branch. The main legislative body is Congress which of two houses: the Senat and the Houses of Representatives. They are responsible for making and passing laws, but the President has the right to veto.

The third branch is Judical Branch, which consists of the Supreme Court, Federal District Courts and 11 Federal Courts of Appel. Federal courts consider cases concerning federal law.

The American Constitution has been amended 26 times. The first ten Amendemnts are called the Bill of Rights and guarantee the freedom of speech, religion, assembly, and so on.
