Steven Allan Spielberg was born on the 18th of December, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father, Arnold, was an electrical engineer involved in the development of computers, while mother Leah, a concert pianist, looked after the 4 children - Steven was the oldest, the others being Annie, Sue and Nancy. As child he was truant and he would have liked to go to the cinema. He said: “My spiritual father is Walt Disney, and my stepfather is TV set.”

He hadn’t got to film studies and he went to California State College and studied English Literature. He was married Amy Irving from 1985 to 1989. Now his wife is Kate Capshaw. He has 5 chlidren with her. He founded Amblin factory and foundation Shoah, which take charge of documentation against Jews.

Cinema had always been his hobby. He realized films on tapes and put under them music. By 12, he had made his first amateur film, an 8-minute western called ‘The Last Gun’. Later he shoot similar films like ‘Amblin’ (1968), ‘Firelight’ (1964) and ‘Slipstream’ (1967). He directed also soap operas, for example ‘The Name Of The Game’ (1968-1971) or ‘Night Gallery’ (1970-73).

Since 1970s he have directed films, which became hits. There’re ‘Jaws’ (1975), ‘Close Encounters Of The Third Kind’ (1977), series of ‘Indiana Jones’, ‘E.T.’ (1982), ‘The Colour Of Purple’ (1985), ‘Hook’ (1991), ‘Schindler’s List’ (1993), ‘Jurassic Park’ (1993), ‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1998), ‘A.I. – Artificial Intelligence’ (2001), ‘Minority Report’ (2002), ‘Catch Me If You Can’ (2002), ‘The Terminal’ (2004), ‘War of the Worlds’ (2005) and ‘Munich’ (2005). ‘Indiana Jones 4’ will appear in cinema in 2007.

Spielberg is well-know director and producer. He was nominated to many awards, for example Oscar, Saturn Award, Emmy and Golden Globe. He won a lot of them.
