Tour of Wrocław

Good morning ladies nad gentlemen. My name is Hubert, and I’m glad to welcome you on today’s tour of Wroclaw City.

Our tour will take about four hours. For the first, we visit The Wrocław City Museum, which is branch of Wrocław Archeological Museum. The next we will go to The Museum Of Cementary Art. And the final point of today’s sight-seeing will be botanic garden.

The objects gathered in The Wrocław City Museum form one of most comprehensive collections in Poland. It consists of 180.000 objects from the stone age right until contemporary times. Part of it are pottery weapons, coins, wooden handicrafts and many more. The most valuable artifacts are those from Lower Paleolithic found in Trzebnica, and earthenware figure from the Neolithic found in Jordanów, and artifacts recovered from Celtic tombs. The museum is located in the arsenal.

The second point of our tour is The Museum Of Cementary Art. This object is situated in the area of Old Jewish Cementary, It has been established in the year 1856. Today if functions as a museum. The oldest tombstones featured in the museum date back to the beginning of the 13th century. Monuments, tombstones, chapels and tombs witness not only the high artistical skills of their authors but also the turbulent history of the town, which has been shaped through centuries by europe’s various communities.

And now we visit the last object of our tour: The botanic garden.
The garden is a part of the University of Wrocław. It has been established in 1811 as a scientific institution of the university. It is situated in the oldest part of the town, in Ostrów Tumski, in the vincity of old gothic churches. The citizens often call it „an oasis of beauty nad tranquility”. The plants in the park come from natural habitats as well as from other botanic gardens from all around the world. A charecteristic of the garden is a very interesting profile through a layer of coal cut out 140 years ago from the Wałbrzych area.
