An international travel guide has asked its readers to send in a review of two or three different modes of transport in their countries, commenting on reliability, comfort, and price.

Welcome to Poland!
Travelling to Poland? Despite all basic information about the country you should also get to now how to get there. I would like to give you some advice.

Let’s start with how long you want to stay. If it is just a border excursion it is rather better to go by car. Your own conveyance has more advantages and it makes you free of care, because you don’t have to be punctual all the time – you organise your time just as you like. Nevertheless the road system in Poland can be disappointing. There are less than 500 km motorways so the speed of your translocation would be relatively low. Some people travel at night when the traffic is quite low.

You want to stay for two weeks or even longer? Booking tickets for an organised trip wouldn’t be the bad idea, of course if you are used to “coach conditions”. Even if there is a traffic jam it does not really matter - you can just enjoy your time reading a book for example. I think that this is the main advantage.

Going by train? I personally dislike that for some reasons, mainly because of exorbitant prices. Train is a very good solution for someone who travels long distances. Another advantage is that you can be almost sure it will come on time (regardless weather conditions for instant). The main problem is that obviously trains do not go where you want them to. You have to be aware of paying additional costs for getting from a railway station to other places.

To sum it up, I think the best choice is to go by your own car. But be careful – don’t have it stolen! J
