White Zombie

My favourite band is White Zombie. It is a heavy metal band from the USA. It was set up by Robert Straker (a.k.a. Rob Zombie). The band was: Robert Straker (vocals, lyrics), Shauna Reynolds (bass guitar), Ivan DePrume (drums) and Jay Uuenger (electric guitar).
Rob and his band took their first steps on the New York music scene in 1984. Their first CD was an LP - "Gods of Voodoo Moon". In 1986 they recorded another one - "Pig Heaven" and in 1987 - "Psycho-Head Blowout".
Critics and listeners gave their approval and in 1988 the band recorded a longplay "Soul Crusher", which was their first big success. For the first time the music was enriched with samples from horror movies (Rob is a horror fan).
The band had time, hardware and production, and made use of it. All the magazines wrote about them.
Their music was not the only thing that caused such a big enthusiasm. Another thing was Robert's pictures in CD-books and his lyrics, containing a lot of symbolics and black humour.

A year later the band recorded another albums - LP "God of Thunder" and longplay "Make them die Slowly".
On "Make them die slowly" White Zombie changed their sound - they were slower, they became dark and very heavy. They were even compared to Slayer. Despite everything, they couldn't count on a really big prominence - their publisher was a small firm. They changed the publisher. The new one (Geffen Records) guaranteed them: more time, better hardware and better production.
1992 - "La Sexorcisto: devil music vol. 1" - another, long awaited longplay. The album is great and it was real blockbuster. It contains the biggest Zombie's hits - "Thunder Kiss '65" and "Welcome to planet Motherfucker".

Then, Zombie recorded singles "I am Hell" (appeared on album "Beavis & Butthead experience, one of their best songs) "Feed the Gods" ("Airheads" soundtrack), "The One" ("Escape from L.A. soundtrack) and music for a computer game "Way of the Warrior".
After 3 years of waiting, the band started the recording of a new album. Ivan DePrume left the band and John Tempesta became the new drummer. Another new man - Charlie Clouser (ex-Nine Inch Nails, keyboard) wasn't an official band member, but his input is noticeable.
These two changes contributed to the creation of a new, gorgeous album - "Astro-Creep 2000: songs of love, destruction and other synthetic delusions of the electric head".

The last album was "Supersexy Swingin' Sounds", containing tha remixes of the songs from "Astro-Creep...". Then, the band suspended the activity and its members drifted apart. It wasn' the end of Zombie - Rob, Tempesta and two other musicians created a new band - Rob Zombie, but this is of course another story.
