The biggest rock festival in Poland, Station Woodstock, took place for the eighth time in Żary.Station Woodstock led by Jerzy Owsiak. Various sources from 120,000 to over 200,000 young people from across the country took part in this year's festival, which makes it one of the biggest music events in Europe. During the two days and nights of Aug. 2 and 3, a total of 30 bands, chosen from 400 applications, performed on several stages. There were Polish rock stars among them: Zbigniew Hołdys, Raz Dwa Trzy, Hey, Sweet Noise, T.Love, as well as a foreign guest the German group Die Toten Hosen. Another performer was Ewelina Flinta, one of the finalists of the television program Idol. Like every year, Owsiak conducted the event from a gigantic main stage. Almost all types of rock music, from heavy metal across punk rock to songs similar to pop, were performed on the stage in Żary. For the first time symphonic music could be heard at the festival as well the last performer was the Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra. The festival audience listened to the Mazurek Dąbrowskiego, the Polish national anthem, and the festival ended with Maurice Ravel's Bolero. After the symphonic performance for goodbye of 2002 Polish Woodstock organizers display a spectacular fireworks.
