Grzegorz Turnau's biography

Grzegorz Turnau is one of the most popular singers, composers, and pianists who belonged to the “Cellar under the tups”.
He was born on 31st July 1967 in Cracow. He went to a music school, to a piano class.

Unfortunately he didn’t finish it because of departure to England for a year. After his arrivle to Poland, he continued his education in V LO in Cracow. When he passed matura, he started on Jagiellonski University studying English Philology. Next school wasn’t finished...
Grzegorz chose music. In the age of seventeen he joined the “Cellar under the tups”.

From the earliest years he manifested his music abilities: there’s an anegdote about Grzegorz that he cuold in the age of two sing contemporary hit clearly. When he joined the “Cellar”, he was the youngest there and it was similar for a couple of years. That place was very important for Grzegorz. There he started his music journey, met his wife – Maryna Barfuss and gained first experiences.

His first longplay he recirded in 1993. It was “Against the light” and it quickly became a platin record. Later LP’s have received a great number of awards. Grzegorz is an owner of four Fridercics, two Victors, a Mathew and many others. His songs have very wise lyrics and the same melody (if we can say that melody can be wise...). Most of texts and music is written by himself, but Grzegorz cooperates with an outstanding writer –Michał Zabłocki and bases on attainments of polish poets eg. Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, Julian Tuwim or Wisława Szymborska.
His private life is guarded so we don’t know much. But it is known that Grzegorz has been married for fifteen years now with Maryna Barfuss and he has a little daughter – Antosia.

Grzegorz Turnau is surely a great musician and a wonderful man. He is talented very much and his fame will grow in hearts and thoughts of every man who had heard his music.
