For most people in Poland and abroad, Częstochowa, my home town, is associated with the world famous monastery, Jasna Góra. The whole complex is beatifully situated on the top of the gently sloping hill. Thanks to such location, the monastery with its tall tower, can be easily seen even from a long distance.

The greatest treasure of Jasna Góra is the miraculous picture of Our Lady which shows a half figure of Madonna with Child. You can admire it inside the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Next to the Chapel there is the large Basilica of the Holy Cross and the Birth of the Virgin Mary. Worth seeing are also the Treasury, the Arsenal and the Museum of the six hundredth Anniversary of the Monastery.

The Treasury built above the Sacristy contains a lot of valuable objects and priceless relics; most of them constituting evidence of the worship of Our Lady, demonstrated over the centuries. There are also numerous silver ornaments and figures of angels, plates and dishes decorated with religious scenes, richly adorned trays and monstraces.

The Arsenal of the fortress of Jasna Góra houses an exhibition in three departments: old arms and armour, the history of the Jasna Góra fortress and military offerings of thanks laid at the feet of Our Lady by kings, statesmen, army leaders or even simple soldiers.

Those not interested in history of the monastery itself, can go up on the tower to see the beautiful views from there: the surrounding bulwarks and the two lovely parks divided by the Sienkiewicza Avenue as far as the Blessed Virgin Mary Avenue which connects the former old town quarter with the monastery.

Thanks to Jasna Góra Monastery my home town, which is maybe not as beautiful as e.g. Cracov, can also be worth visiting tourist attraction.
