Genetically modified food

Genetically modefied food is a kind of food which has been modified in laboratories or for penetrated roots by special substances which change their structure.Genes come not only from other plants but also from animals. Genetically modified food (GM) is very important for people all over the world. This discipline of science can be very helpful for us in the nearest future. Now we use this kind of food in many fields of activity. Though that, we can help poor and starving people living in the Third World countries. We are able to grow some plants in different climate. Thanks to that people from regions where growingeven small edible plant is very hard, can grow themselve a little essential food.

GM food also help people suffering from allergies .Scientists can change the genetical structure of a plant and eliminated genes which evoke the allergy. We can also apply these techniques to make products more resistant to pests. When we insert some genes, which make fruits or something else more resistent to pests we also can collect more harvests. Because less plants can be eaten by pests.

This food has got some disadvanteges too. We can make fruits more attractive which cause the increase in sales. It is bad for our wallets, because when you enter a supermarket the first things which you see, are very beautiful fruits and vegetables. For example big green apples or very red tomatoes. And of course we only think about buying them.

Besides, when farmers use pesticides, they don?t know that these products make the plants more resistant in only one way. For example biotechnology companies make pesticides which make the plants resistant to one pest but not for others. So, what can farmers do? Of course, they want to collect more harvest and they should buy other pesticides which make the plants more resistant to other kinds of pests. Later they sell that food and we have to eat very toxic products which can cause a lot of diseases. We probably don?t know at the moment how threatening could be the consequences of eating that food.

I think that GM food will be very important for us in the nearest future. And I think that we should make that kind of food but we also should be very careful, because even a small mistake could cause a big eccological tragedy.
