“The end justifies the means” is used to say that doing bad things is acceptable if they achieve an important result. The result doesn’t need always be good-it must be important. This argument was created by Niccolò Machiavelli in XVI century. Machiavelli believed that any evil action can be justified if it is done for a good purpose. I would like to show few arguments why this statement is correct and why not.

First of all, this statement has positive meaning, when our purpose is noble, advantageous and will help not only me but lot of people, we should do everything to achieve it, without thinking about the circumstances. Take an illness into consideration. If someone from our family is seriously ill, we will be trying to find some help, medicines, do everything which will help to clear up the illness.

Secondly, if there is something which we want to gain and that thing if much more important that wherewithal, that will be use and loose for our purpose, shouldn’t we sacrifice this wherewithal to achieve our ideal aim?

On the other hand, we shouldn’t leave no stone unturned because it may have terrible result in the end. It may be a disaster if we take something by storm without earlier discussion about the problem. What is more, if something bad happen to someone, because we are set on something, we will later have sting of remorse. It is immoral behaviour if person is hurt because we want gain something very much.

Summing up, I think it is difficult to judge this statement. It depends from situation, from our point of view and from our behaviour, if this statement will have good meaning or bad. We must in our mind consider how to resolve the problem without hurting other people.
