Books

Thanks to the art of writing all the knowledge of our ancestors remained until today. Literature and archeology are the only sources of information about history of mankind.
Until the 15-th century books were very expensive because they were hand written and hand rewritten mostly by manks. They could be found in abbies, monasteries and courts of the royalty. After the invention of print by Gutenberg, books became more and more common and available.
Nowadays we have lots different kinds of books. I suppose that most of us don’t read them. Year by year we read less and less – TV and cinema are taking over. Watching a movie is more comfortable and easier than reading, but it would never replace it. When we read we can imagine reality described in a book and we improve our creativity. During watching film we are only passive spectators.
I don’t think that it is possible to encourage everybody to start reading. Internet and movie are more attractive and more modern than literature. If a person hasn’t been taught to read as a child, she or he will not start now.
