What about that television?

Nowdays, a television set is as a piece of furniture, there is at least one in every hause. The modern TV set is technologicaly advanced, it has a large screen and is slim. It is possible to access 200 (or more) channels, but I wonder whether there is really something interesting to watch. I am not sure.
First, I think that in those times quantity outweighs quality. So there are a lot of low quality reality-shows, series and films. The channel’s owners decided to show some programmes taking into accaunt only the profits from advertisements and they follow the viewing figures. They do not think whether some programmes are useful or interesting, they only want to make profit.
In adition, television was a great invention of XX century. It was used to inform, to learn and to entertain the public. I think that in the past writers or producers of shows, series and films were more ambitious. They took care about the quality of aired programmes. They helped people to discover the world and diffrent cultures. The news tried to present facts in objective way, even heroes were honourable and loyal, they became the models of true friends or lovers, the villains were sneaky, lying and aggressive.
Today, the documantry films are shown only 2-4 hours a day on special channels, the news presents the facts as if a world war every day has started so we sometimes are not able to distinguish what is important and what is not, so we usually change the channel so as not to feel stresful. The reality shows and quizes reign. They pretend to show the private lives of people, all intimate things but in fact they propagate very harmful behaviour – how to make fun of someone, to point at weakness and to scoff at somebody. They allow the public to juge others in appearance, to opinionate whether someone is needed, nice, friendly, good or bad.
In conclusion, I think that in our times television is the way to transfer examples of harmful behaviour which destroy our psyche, beside being the most commercial media. Fortunately a lot of people do not allow to manipulate them and turn off the television set.
