What are our signs on the World? How the foreigners recognize Poland? Which our people are known everywhere? I’m going to reply here to these questions.
I think that most people in Europe and on the world know our national symbols: white eagle with gold crown on red background and our white and red flag, especially now, when we are a member of European Union.
We have also famous people who are known over the globe. We have six nobel prize winners: Władysław Reymont, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska, Maria Skłodowska-Curie and Lech Wałęsa. Reymont, Sienkiewicz, Miłosz and Szymborska are well known writers and poets all over the world. Maria Skłodowska-Curie was great chemists. She discovered two chemical elements: radium and polonium. Wałęsa was the leader of Solidarność, the organization which started polish way to democracy.
We have much sportsmens which are known out of our country. There is a wonderful ski jumper in Poland – Adam Małysz. He is famous especially in Germany, Austria and Scandinavia because ski jumping is very popular in these countries. Robert Korzeniowski – a walker is a fourfold olimpic games medalist what is great achievement in today’s proffesional sport.
But the most famous polish everywhere in the world is the pope John Paul II, which is a leader of catholic church. He has on his account more than hundred pilgrimages to many countries.
In sum there are many of symbols which are the foreigners can link with Poland, but our best visiting-card are our great people in every domain of human activity.
