Wales is 150 miles from north to south. Its three biggest towns are: Swansea, Cardiffand, Newport. The Welsh are very proud of their culture and language. Welsh is on of the leltic languages, like Scottish and Irish. It is spoken by 20 per cent of the population.

Although not meny welsh words are known in England, the word eisteddfod is known by everybody. This is the welsh name for an annual competition where people meet to dance, sing and read poens.

There are lots of castles which were built to protect people from attacks. One of the greatest ones is Caerharfen Castle. In 1969 the present Oueen made her eldest son, Charles, Prince of Wales at Caernarfen castle. In 1981 married Diana and she became the Princess of Wales.

There are three National Parks in Wales. They are protected by law because of Their natural beauty. The most famous is Snowdonia in the north-west. There is also a mountain. Its peak called is the highest one.

You can Reach it on foot or by the Snowdon Mountain railway, with 4,5 miles long.

One of the biggest power stations in the world is built in the heart of a Welsh mountain. It uses water of a large mountain lake to produce electricity. The underground jumped power station is the largest in Europe and is used to produce electricity by jumping water again and again between- two lakes.

Cardiff is a capital of Wales. It is an attractive and interesting place to live in, with good communications, plenty of parks and varied population. There is also a beautiful castle, L landaf cathedral, and the national museum of Wales. And for those who like music, there is the famous national concert hall, St David’s Hall, or the New Theatre, witch is the home of the Welsh National Opera Company.
