Easter is a Christian holiday which celebrates the day when Jesus came back from the dead.

The Easter weekend is in late March or early April, but the exact date changes each year. In Great Britain and in US as well as in Poland people celebrate Easter although many traditions are different.

In Great Britain people buy big chocolate eggs- empty inside, they stuff them with sweets and on Easter Sunday morning give such eggs to beloved person. If you want, you can buy already stuffed eggs, but it’s nicer to do them by yourself.

On Thursday before Easter every year British Queen goes to Westminster Abbey or other cathedral and gives poor people money. The number of people who get money is always the same as the age of the Queen! This day is called Maundy Day.

In the USA people give colored and chocolate eggs to each other and also send cards. Adults hide eggs in the different places and children look for them believing that Easter Bunny brought those presents! When children found all the eggs they can eat them- this is the prize. The tradition is also held in the White House and it is called Easter Egg Hunt.

Easter Monday is a very interesting day in the United States. Some cities have Easter parades with games and sports!
Every year thousands of women wear special hats to show how beautiful they are. On this day women buy the most expensive and fabulous hats. This is probably the only day when you can see so many ladies wearing hats. This kind of hats is called Easter Bonnet. There is a famous parade in New York connected with this tradition.

Easter Egg Rolling Contest in New York as well as in Washington D.C. there is a special competition: in Central Park children roll eggs with wooden spoons. If you broke the egg, you lose.
