Our country is going to join the European Union soon. It will be an important event, which will take place at the beginning of May 2004. It will mean much not only for those people, who are connected with politics, but also for an average person living in our country. A few months before we join the EU, many of us try to discuss whether it is good or bad for us.
These days, before our joining the European Union, we are more often talking about pros & cons of the situation. I think that the most advantageous thing about the event, are better possibilities for young people, who want to go abroad to study or find a better job. In my opinion , it will be much easier to find a job abroad. It is obvious, I think. Suddenly there will be one big Europe, not only separate countries. The new Europe is going to be strong, so why don’t we join it, too? I think that it is the only possibility for Poland. Almost every country in Europe will belong to this institution.
Maybe not at first, but few years later, when our situation gets stabilized , joining the EU will bring us many profits. After some time, it will be easier to make businesses in Poland than it has been before. Our economy will become stronger thanks to the European Union.
We should join the European Union in order not to stay at the end. I think that after we join the EU, streets of our biggest cities will change a lot.
As I have mentioned before, it will become much easier to make businesses in our country, so many foreign firms will come to Poland to invest here their money. Investors from the whole Europe will care much about the image of a country which joined the European Union. So after some years our country will be in a better condition. That’s why our children will have a better life. The next pro of Poland in EU is connected with Poles who spend their holidays abroad. There will be no borders, so we will not have to waste so much time before we leave our country.
Although I see many pros of the situation, I also think that there are some disadvantages. At first, when I am thinking of the cons, I think about the polish culture. It is very possible, that we will lose some part of our long-lasting tradition. It will be sad if we forget about our customs, poetry or famous people.
The whole Europe has one common currency, so we must be prepared that the prices in our shops will increase. There are many poor families living in Poland and their situation will be the worst in our country.
There are other possibilities, f.ex. many polish workers can lose their jobs, because our firms and social institutions will be taken over by foreign competitors. The situation can become worse for some people who are going to stay in Poland, but it doesn’t have to be like that. Most of the Poles have a lot dubiousness about our situation after joining the EU. How will it be?- only time can show.
