Once there was a transatlantic liner by the name Batory. It was nicknamed 'Lucky Ship' as indeed a lucky ship it was. It was spared both the high winds of the seas and the storms of World War II in which it served in convoys. Its home port was Gdynia - a city born out of dreams and very wisely invented less than 80 years ago; a city born under a lucky star - where luck never fails you and unlike elsewhere the impossible becomes possible.

Your best choice would have been to settle down in Gdynia ; but as only a few have been destined to do so (approximately 250 thousand city inhabitants) the remaining 6 billion are at least welcome to pay a short visit to this beautiful, comfortable and , as has been scientifically proven, the sunniest city in Poland. The scoffers may say that you can visit Gdynia in just one day. The same has been said of Paris... There may be a grain of truth in what they say as both our cities can actually be visited in a lightning fast package tour way. That notwithstanding we wish to welcome everyone to stay here a bit longer. It is worthwhile !!!

Gdynia is an attractive place for connoisseurs of every realm of art, enthusiasts of intensive experiences of nature and active sport lovers. The city is very well connected by rail so you can reach several no less attractive places of interest in the vicinity : Gdańsk, Sopot, the Pomerianian District, the Peninsula of Hel and the Swedish city of Karlskrona. Gdynia is one of the youngest cities of Poland. Its status was raised to that of a city by a cabinet decree on February 10, 1926. Once merely a village, in just one decade Gdynia was turned into a modern city of 100 thousand inhabitants by brave, tough and pioneer- spirited Poles who were drawn here by the thousands of jobs created in the port. However young the city may seem , numerous relics of the past are to be found here. Amongst them will surely be oneGdynia is one of the youngest cities of Poland. Whoever wishes to experience the charm and the beauty of Gdynia is best advised to walk up the Kamienna Góra Hill (54 meters above the sea level ). The place commands a marvelous view of the whole city, the wooded hills, the port and the boundless sea. It is one of the most beautiful and first- rate landscapes in Poland. It is worthwhile to plan a trip around the city while you are on top of the hill. Your itinerary must not exclude the Kościuszki Square - "an open air salon" of Poland. It is to here that the kings, admirals and heads of state come and so does every Pole with a bit of self-respect ... It is here that all the state and city - hall organized events take place: parades, marches, concerts by big stars. Also prestigious sporting events commence and end here . It is here that one can see historic ships such as the oldest destroyer in the world "ORP Błyskawica", a frigate "Dar Pomorza", modern sailing boats and yachts, a very hospitable stylized restaurant boat "Viking", fishing and cruising boats and the biggest pleasure - boats from the world all over. "A liner - ship avenue" - the only one in Europe - has been built here to better accommodate the pleasure - boat traffic. Near by is the Oceanographic Museum and Sea Aquarium that house scores of marine fauna and flora exhibits. The Naval Academy is close by as is the "Gemini" Entertainment Center. Most importantly though, all these are just a few minutes walk from the city center.
