“The day I ran in a marathon”
Four years ago, on the first Saturday of April my best friend Sue – typical teenage girl avidly interested in running – decided to take part in a long distance race in Cracow. As she claimed not to be fit enough to run full 42 kilometres she chose the shorter version – a half-marathon.
The race and the events held along were to take place two weeks after she made her decision. Sue and her mom came to pick me up on Sunday morning. I was happy since the weather was beautiful but my friend seemed to be a little anxious. “I'm not sure if I am able to finish this race,” she said to me while changing her shoes for the running ones. We did a warm up together and Sue seemed to regain faith in herself. After three hours from the beginning of the race we started to worry, because she should have completed the half-marathon already. Finally we saw her finishing and to our surprise, thick crowd gathered around her. “You are the youngest participant, how would you name that special day?” the reporter asked enthusiastically. “Well, it's the day I ran in a marathon... accidentally!” exclaimed Sue happily.
After that day Sue, despite feeling a little foolish, began to look around while running to make her spatial orientation better. Not only had she became more confident but also started to believe that she is able to achieve whatever she wants and nothing will stop her.
