Last summer I was in England. I flew there cause I wanted to work for some time. I loved England – it’s different country than Poland. Life in England is easier, happier and more interesting I think. We can meet lot of different people, know different cultures and learn lot of languages. People are cordialer/more cordial than polish, you can earn more money and enjoy four free time spending time in interesting places.
I knew zappy but calm England. Ok, I knew and I could see lowbrow students but I felt safely there. But then something changed. On 7th August my mummy called me. She was little bit nervous. I asked why and she told me that my grandmother telephoned her and was trying to tell her about rioters in London but she only told “Riots are in London, there is dangerous, turn on tv, there is Gabriela”. My mother didn’t know what’s going on. She turn on tv, she was so nervous. She was thinking that something was happening with me but ten she get it. My grandmother saw that something is happening in England and she was thinking that I’m in trouble. But I was fine.
I felt safety – rioters were far away, my districts were safety. But in the night from 8th to 9th August I couldn’t sleep. All night I was hearing sirens of police and ambulances. When at the morning I was going to work I heard in a bus that rioters was destroying builds, shops and homes at Ealing Broadway – I was leaving at Ealing Hospital and it’s close to Ealing Broadway. I was little bit scared.
When I get to underground station and get to the tube I took “metro” newspaper. There was article about rioters at Ealing Broadway. They were destroying everything – shops, homes, cafes, restaurants. They were stealing too and police couldn’t do anything because of their law.
I got to my shop, I opened it, I cleaned floor, I checked fridges and meet and I was waiting for customers. Day was strange. There were beans people on the street and more police. I was thinking that they are just careful. But I still felt that something is wrong. When Ewelina, waiter from my bosses restaurant, came she told me about some fight on Hounslow East (we were working on Hounslow Central) which one she saw going by oxo. She didn’t know it was rioters’ fight or not but she told me to be careful. She feels something wrong too. We were checking the street when we didn’t have customers just for safe. At 2:10 p.m. one of customer told me that probably rioters were writing on Twitter that they will be at 2:30 p.m. at High Street – long street near my shop where are lot of shops. I got scared stiif. I didn’t know what to do. I was by myself in shop and I just heard that rioters will be here in 20 minutes. I called Ewelina. We noticed that other shops were closing and suddenly there were lot of police on the street. We called our boss. She told us to close restaurant and shop and she’s going for us. She and her husband get to Hounslow Central and took us and chef from their restaurant to our homes. I was leaving with my bosses so I was getting back to home with them. We went to Ealing Broadway to check damages. We couldn’t see lot of them but what we saw staggered us. We got to home and we was checking on tv and internet what’s happening on Hounslow.
At the evening Kasia, my boss, was really nervous. She was worrying about her shop and restaurant. I resolved to chase pointers. I thought that I can check twitter for some information. I find out warring information – some people was writing that nothing is happening on Hounslow, but the others was claiming that Spar (chain of shops) and few other shops was afire. We set our minds to go there and check. We knew that if something is happening – police will return us to home. It was about 10 or 11 p.m. o clock. We got into the car and we went to Hounslow. When we got there we were surprised. The street was empty. We could see a few boodles of teenagers probably looking for some chance to still something. There were no police, no rioters. It lifted a weight off our minds. We could get back to home and sleep calmly.
When we got up we found out that rioters were on Southhall – district next to our but from the other side than Ealing Broadway. But we were still safety. Next day I was going back to Poland so I knew that I’m safe now and nothing is going to happen to me.
I think that my adventure with rioters was one of the most emotional adventure in my life.
