My favourite part of Warsaw is Old Town, which is situated in the north side of the centre.

I like it because of its beautiful romantic tenements, churches and narrow streets built in medieval style. It is surrounded by walls and Barbican. There are a lot of romantic lanes that lead to the bank of the Vistula River. All these things create a special atmosphere and they always make me feel as if I was in the seventeenth century. Old Town is the cultural lounge of the capital with concerts in the open air, performances of theatrical troupes and period cafs and pubs, which ring out with music. I like to drink beer in one of its pubs or go for a walk through its lanes.
There is Royal Castle and Column with Sigismunt III Waza`s statue on Castle Square. Władysław IV built it for his father, who moved the capitol of Poland from Cracow to Warsaw, in 1644. Old Town was almost completely razed to the ground during the Word War Two by Germans. It was reconstructed. It is one of the most picturesque nooks in Warsaw nowadays.

Many famous people lived in Old Town. For example world-famous scientist Mary Curie-Skłodowska, who was born there. There are a lot of shops, cafs, pubs, restaurants, souvenir shops and showrooms. The Mariensztat, where you can drink a green beer, is situated nearby. People taste old wine and try excellent delicacies in restaurants. Marketplace of Old Town is worth visiting. You won’t get to know Old Town if you don’t try to go down through Stone Steps or if you don’t go down Dawna Street on viewing area.

Old Town attracts people from the whole world. It’s unique and breathtaking. It’s very significant place for Poles because it’s a symbol of Warsaw and Poland. It mirrors completely the spirit of this nation.
