A world without money.
Would a world without money be better? In my opinion that's not true and certainly impossible, too. I intend to fully support my view. I mean, money was invented for a reason, after all.
Firstly, if people had no money, they would need another way of aquiring goods, and most likely, that would be simply swapping. Of course people are creative enough to think up some other system, but I can't imagine anything else, so this will have to be the whole concept of this article.
So, in a world where you have to trade everything, some kind of an exchanging laws would be needed. A determinant of the value of everything. People would need to know exactly how many chickens are worth a tv, so nobody overpays. The value would be attributed depending on how much effort, time and material was put into making any given thing. But then again, if you attribute a fixed value to things, doesn't that work just like money, which is also just pieces of paper? So whats the difference, you ask?
The difference is efficiency. Let's say you need a book. You go to the librarian, and he says he wants either a chicken or some nice underwear. Well, you have neither (since he wants the underwear to be new) The lingerie shop is in another city, so you have to run to the butcher, who in exchange for the meat wants the same book as you. Because he has everything else he could ever need, he just needs that one book (he's a happy man, you know). What now!? You run in circles! And even if he kindly decides to want something else the whole process is so time-consuming that it just stops being worth the effort.
And don't forget we have to think big. Right now there are companies who spend BILLIONS on some things. It's hard to imagine changing billion dollars to bags of grain, isn't it? In a world where exchange trade is the currency how would banks work? You need to build a house, so you take a bank loan in nickelback CD's? And here emerges another problem. Where to keep all those things? Money is small, portable, efficient.
Another downside to this system is stealing. Well, technically it's not a downside, as it exists in every economic system. It's more of a fact, really. Something constant. People would steal everything you pay with, be it money or Oreo filling. Just like now, they don't find only cash appealing, if they have nothing else close at hand your 54' LCD TV and iPhone 5 will have to do. But the thing is banknotes are easily reprinted(or at leat in some cases) but your hard earned toilet paper not so much. The crime rate would also soar, seeing as wanted/possesed goods would be a constant source of conflict between buyers and sellers. Maybe even murder rate would rise.
However there are also some nice advantages, like working. In a society where we mainly depend on technology and you can quickly make cash just by putting some ads on your blog people are getting lazy. We are mostly mind workers now. We develop nad progress by being creative and innovative, but don't actually DO anything. We don't make ideas HAPPEN. I'm talking about gray, ordinary people here, I know scientists work hard to make ideas real. Like when a kid says it would be cool to build a ramp, but he never really gets to do it or doesn't know how.
My point is, the craftsmanship is becoming extinct, despite being the most important factor in natural survival. That and knowledge. While in a money driven world people have more time for education, they learn things mostly needed for work, or because they are interesting. I doubt many people learn by heart the kinds of edible and poisonous plants or other stuff usefull to survival. If somehow, suddenly, electricity and oil disappeared people would be vulnerable and drop like flies.
So if people had to work to stay alive, they would be healthier and more fit. And they would also appreciate everything more, since they worked hard to earn or make it. Thus, making problems like obesity, water pollution or food waste mostly gone. That's a great thing since no matter how hard we try to educate people, teach them about hungry african children and tell them that one of theose six BigMacs they're eating could save a whole village they just won't listen! But that's probably the only plus to living in a moneyless world.
To coclude, I think a world without money simply wouldn't work out in our time and if it did it would be highly inefficient. The fact is it happened, but it was in the ancient times where people had different mentality and the world wasn't so developed. In my opinion cons to living in such an economic system outweight the pros, it's better to stay with the cash. Money was invented for a reason, after all.

(short version)

Would a world without money be better? I think it's impossible to function efficiently without money. After all it was invented for a reason.
Firstly, if people had no money, they would use another way of aquiring goods, and that would be swapping. E.g., if you wanted books you'd have to give the librarian something in exchange. And if he wanted something particular, which you didn't have, then you would have to first swap with someone else for it, which makes the whole process extremely time-consuming. Also there would have to be a determinat of value of everyhing, so people can know how many cows are worth a tv. People wouldn't stop stealing, they would just steal goods, which aren't easily replacable, like money. And when investing in big projects, like buildings, how much grain would you have to give away and where would you keep it?
However, there are also adventages to this, like working. In a society of technology people are getting lazy and while beng more educated, they forget to learn craftsmanship, a very important factor in survival. Thus, if people had to work to make swapping goods themselves, they would be healthier, more fit and they would appreciate them more. Problems like water pollution and food waste would disappear.
In conclusion, the world without money would be underdeveloped, because of the inefficiency of such system. I think disadventages outweight the adventages, ergo, such a world would be worse to live in.
