Wars are the greatest disease of mankind. Every year they take thousands of victims. What is the point of people killing each other? Does it make any sense?

Wars have different reasons. First, we have conflicts which take place, when one country wants to gain the territory of another one. That was the cause of the Second World War, when the Germans wanted to have the whole Europe for themselves. Nowadays, we don’t have such conflicts. Today a very ‘popular’ type of war is a religious conflict. As an example, let’s take the conflict in the Middle East. It’s hard to imagine a more pointless type of war. This war is propelled by hate and one terrorist attack provokes another one. The number of innocent people killed is counted in thousands, but none of the sides wants to stop it. Another type of a global conflict is what we call ‘A war against terrorism’. After the September 11th attacks, president Bush had to react. As this is a type of war, no one knew before, he didn’t know exactly how to react. According to me, his reaction was bad. He started a large-scale military operation against Afghanistan, which is hard to call a war against the terrorists. As a result of that, the terrorists’ leader Osama bin Laden escaped and will probably never be caught.

To sum up, wars are an integral part of life on earth. We can’t prevent them, we only can try to lessen the effects of them. And that is what we should do.
