It`s the best known statue in North America and maybe in the world. It stands on Liberty Island in the inner*( wewnętrzny) harbour of New York Bay.
Construction and physical details
Statue is huge and it shows a woman holding tablet in left hand and torch in right hand. Its high is 151 feet and is made of copper*(miedź) with steel*(stalowy) supports(podpora). Lifts and steps take visitors to the top. There are 25 windows in the crown, which comprise*(składać sie z) the jewels beneath*(pod) the seven rays*(promienie) of the diadem. That represent the seven oceans and continents of world. The tablet, which woman holds in her left hand shows in Roman numerals, “July 4, 1776”, the day of America`s independence from Britain. Other interesting physical details: winds of 50 miles per hour cause the Statue sway 7, 6 cm and the torch to sway*( chwiać sie ) 12, 7 cm.
Historical Facts.

The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France, conceived*(obmyślana) and designed*(zaprojektowana) as a monument to a great international friendship. But its significance*(znaczenie) has broadened*(rozszerzyć) and for many people throughout the world it has become the recognized symbol of liberty and democracy.

Construction of the Statue began in France in the year 1875, by sculptor*(rzeźbiarz) Auguste Bartholdi. The final completion*(ukończenie) date of the individual sections was in June of 1884, and it stood in Paris until it was dismantled*(zdemontowana) in early 1885 for shipping to the US. Engineering*(inżynieria) of the structure`s assembly*(montaż) was done by Gustave Eiffel. The pedestal*(podstawa) was designed by architect Richard M. Hunt in 1877. Construction of the pedestal began in 1883 and was completed in 1884, and final assembly of the statue and pedestal was completed in 1886. The French frigate “Isere” transported the Statue from France to the US. In transit the Statue was reduced*(zmniejszona) to 350 individual pieces and packed in 214 crates(paczek).

In 28th October, 1886 President Grover Cleveland accepted The Statue on behalf*(w imieniu) of The United States and said in part: “we will not forget that liberty here made her home; not shall her chosen altar*(ołtarz) be neglected(zaniedbywać)”
The Statue is visited by huge number of people. You can climb 354 steps ( or take a lift) to reach the crown and admire the beautiful view. When you go there in the morning, be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting, particularly in summer, but believe, it is worthwhile(jest warto). That shows you how important is monument.

You will be amazed by this bewitching(urzekający) statue, which shouldn`t be missed by any visitor to this area.
