Jeżeli komuś zlecamy wykonanie jakieś czynności i chcemy to wyrazić, wówczas skorzystamy z formy kauzatywnej, która ma następującą konstrukcję:
- I had my car repaired last week. (Naprawiłem samochód w zeszłym tygodniu. – Oddałem go do naprawy do mechanika.)
- They are having their house painted. (Malują dom. – Wynajęli malarzy do malowania domu.)
Porównaj:
- Joan has cut her hair. --> Joan sama obcięła sobie włosy.
- Joan has had her hair cut. --> Ktoś, prawdopodobnie fryzjer, obciął włosy Joan.
W języku nieformalnym zamiast czasownika have można użyć czasownika get.
Język formalny:
I should have my washing machine repaired.
Język nieformalny:
I should get my washing machine repaired.
