Revenge has always been the most natural and explainable form of punishment. It is completely obvious that we should fight crime; the question is – in what way? Although we claim that violence and brutality are definitely negative, we recently started to have weird thoughts of treating criminals the same way they treat our community. As a matter of fact, it is quite a possible option because only in this atypical way outlaws may understand what kind of harm they have caused.

We all know that the increasing rate of crime is caused by many factors which are present in our daily life. Violent computer games, movies full of brutal and obnoxious scenes, pornography, which is recently one of the most irritable issue easy access to drugs, cigarettes, alcohol even for teenagers – the list is long. All those things have one common feature – they have an enormous influence on our perception of life. Unfortunately, our minds are full of brutal, bloody scenes and keeping those negative images and sounds in our brains we can be sure that they stimulate us to do bad things. Breaking the law is seen almost everyday, that is for sure, but let’s focus on the solution of this wrong behavior. Firstly, we can prevent crime by regular forms of punishment like confinement, fine or compulsory treatment. Of course there are many speculations about capital punishment but one is practiced only in certain cases and when there are particular reasons. Apart from the most popular but still quite effective forms of punishment, we can consider whether treating criminals in the way they treat their victims is the proper option. As the well known quote says: ‘Eye for the eye, tooth for the tooth’ – paying people with what they do to us may be not such a bad idea. When it comes to the criminals, there should be certain regulations specifying in what cases ones need to be treated with cold blood and without any mercy. Rapers should be raped, murderers should be murdered – maybe it sounds shocking but it probably would diminish the rate of delinquency. In other cases, like petty crime, necessary are a little bit severer punishments like higher fines or longer period of compulsory or social working. In my opinion, this would definitely help preventing criminality and violence.

Summing up, violence and what connects with it – breaking the law, is doubtless the worst expression of anger, disagreement, vengeance and so on. People should try to control their temper and avoid acting out of spite. Otherwise, the rule ‘Eye for the eye, tooth for the tooth’ can be applied in our lives and this will not bring anything pleasant – but there can be no way out.
