How many times have you gone mad by tv commercials sitting in front of the tv and waiting till they finish? Or you were so excited to see a new film in the cinema that you couldn’t stand thousands of advertisements before it? You probably consider them as a waste of time and would eagerly cut them out. But nowadays, the advertising has become an art form with its own rights. Advertising companies receive huge royalties for creating the most impressive ones and these which encourage us to focus our concentration on the screen. The best way to achieve it is to use special effects.

One of the commercials that caught my eye recently is the one of Motorola cell phone. A boy is sitting on a running washing machine. He plays one of the games on his mobile. But it is not an ordinary one – one of the new features includes colour screen and sound effects. Thanks to movements of washing machine and sounds it gives out he is brought to the virtual reality of the game – after a second he changes from a teenager into formula one driver. Were there no special effects available, the author of the commercial wouldn’t have the possibility to show all the novelties. At the end we are almost participants in the game. The scenes are dynamic, the music interesting and there is no need for voice-over, which would only labour the point.

In general, I believe adverts have a huge effect on our lifestyles. If the didn’t, far less money would have to be spent on them. Thanks to visual effects the commercial is more realistic and tempts us to buy the product. Unfortunately, short after buying it, a magic illusions disappears and it turns out that virtual reality can be only virtual and a cell phone with colour screen cannot substitute us the “real reality”.
