The Internet is a global system of interconnected. It is a "network of networks" that consists of millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks. It carries various information resources and services, such as electronic mail, online chat, file transfer and file sharing. The internet is quickly becoming the center of mass media. Everything is becoming accessible via the internet. Instead of picking up a newspaper, or watching the news, people log onto the internet to get the news they want, when they want it.
Many workers listen to the radio through the internet while sitting at their desk.
Games are played through the internet.
Even the education system relies on the internet. Teachers can contact the entire class by sending one e-mail. They have web pages where students can get another copy of the class outline or assignments.
The Internet is allowing greater flexibility in working hours, locations and higher education.
Users of MySpace and Youtube have created a new form of socialization and interaction. Users of these sites are able to add a wide variety of items to their personal pages, to indicate common interests, and to connect with others. A lot of people are members of the Dating websites, where they are able to find a new date, as well as friends and familiars.
A computer file can be e-mailed to customers, colleagues and friends as an attachment.
Many existing radio and television broadcasters provide Internet materials of their live audio and video streams (for example, the BBC and in Poland Eska). The most famous website for free streaming video in the world is YouTube, sometimes described as an Internet phenomenon because of the vast amount of users and how rapidly the site's popularity has grown. It is currently estimated that there are 64,000,000 videos on YouTube, and it is also currently estimated that 825,000 new videos are uploaded every day. Thanks to free streaming services people have unlimited access to interesting Internet sources.
The Internet has also become a large market for companies; Big companies nowadays are taking advantage of the efficient nature of low-cost advertising and commerce through the Internet. The Internet has also subsequently revolutionized shopping and there are more and more people shopping in the Internet because all products are usually cheaper than in traditional shops.
In spite of many advantages, the Internet has its disadvantages. Firstly and the most importantly, it is highly addictive. Some people couldn?t even imagine life without the Internet because they substitute newspapers, books, cd?s with the Internet sources. They make their home works with the help of Internet encyclopedias and chat with friends by hand of The Internet communicators. There are many teenagers who sit in front of their laptops all day long and do nothing. They would rather have their Internet friends than so called ?real friends?. Some people are addicted to one certain Internet website or activity, like for instance on-like gaming, dating, shopping or gambling.
Last but not least is an easy access to violence and pornography that can affect children?s puberty. Luckily, there are many free software programs with which a user can choose to block offensive websites on individual computers or networks, such as to limit a child's access to pornography or violence.
