Nowadays, a lot of people speak English. Maybe it is that because The United Kingdom and the United States are both important nations in the world of trade, business and technology. When engaged in trade and business with these nations, knowing English is an advantage. It means English became a world language. Now let?s try to weigh up the arguments for and against.
Firstly, English is helpful in communication and overcoming differences. The fact that English is a global language it makes easier the talks between people of different cultures, countries and speakers of other languages. It is obvious having a common language tidies up the understanding between them and helps them to overcome differences and biases.
Secondly, English can help people to learn about the world. The knowledge of English enables them to travel and experience other culture. If someone speaks English, it makes traveling more exciting and causes learning about other cultures easier.
On the other side, English makes people feel they don?t need no more education. English native speakers think they don?t have to learn different languages, because the most of world population can understand their mother tongue. It isn?t good for them. It makes them fall behind people who are multilingual.
However, there are still people who don?t speak English at all. They don?t have equal education and career opportunities. They have got a lot of troubles when want to find a job because in these days every boss wants to have workers who know English.
