Nowadays there are more and more families which consist only of parents and one child. But is this a really good option for the child? There are both advantages and disadvantages of being an only child.

The biggest advantage is that you do not have to share your room and toys with your brother or sister. When you are an only, you have everything for yourself so you do not argue with your siblings, your life is more peaceful and you are more placid. Also an only child does not have to take care of his or her younger brother or sister and does not have to help them if they have problems so he or she has more free time.

On the other hand, being an only child has a lot of disadvantages. Firstly, your childhood can be extremely lonely as you do not have anyone to play or talk with. It is a problem, especially when you live in a village where only elderly people live. Secondly, your parents pay more attention to you. All eyes are focused on you, everyone wants your best and they take care of you all the time. After such treatment it is possible that you will not manage in your private life.

All in all, being an only child is not a good option. Your life is more boring and you do not have a brother or a sister who can help or give advice whenever you need it. So, if you are an only child, beg your parents to have a younger brother or sister.
