Three bank robbers killed


The Westside Bank on Main Street was broken into early Monday morning. The robbers had stolen 9 million zlotych and after a chase through the North Warsaw they were shot dead by police marksmen.
The whole incident began just before 9 am when the three man entrance the bank. They were wearing balaclavas helmets and carrying guns. They made cashiers and guards lied down without any move, otherwise the robbers would kill hostages. The robbery persisted about 20 minutes but it did not end successfully for the robbers.
The Police who had been secretly observing them, gave a chase, as soon as the robbers left bank, carrying big bags with loot, and drove off in a stolen car. No sooner had the police started the pursuit when the robbers abandoned their car, after driving into a side-street. They ran down an alleyway, so that the police cars could not follow them. Suddenly the robbers opened fire to the police. The officers shouted a warning but the robbers continued firing, so officers decided to use weapon. In the end, the first robber died at the scene, second one and third one died in hospital.
Only one of the policemen’s had been seriously injured but doctor Adam Nowak from Warsaw Hospital said that he would be all right. Commander John Kowalski said that his officers had acted ‘correctly and courageously’. They had prevented any members of public from getting hurt in the gun battle. The incident has been justify by police as the inevitable response to armed robbery.
