New York is America’s most popular city and the ’capital’ of the world of finance and business.
The city is also the assemblage of world-class museums, gallery and the places which they make up the centre of culture of Western Hemisphere.

New York was discovered by Henry Hudson in the early 17th centaury. The Dutch bought Manhattan from the Indians. In 1625 the Dutch formed a settlement which they named New Amsterdam. The British took control of the city in 1664 and renamed it New York. In the 19th and the first two decades of the 20th century thousands of immigrants from Europe came here and made New York the largest city in the United States.

New York is a vibrant center for commerce and business and one of the three “world cities” (along with London and Toyko) that control world finance. Manufacturing—primarily of small but highly diverse types. Clothing and other apparel, such as furs; chemicals; metal products; and processed foods are some of the principal manufactures. The city is also a major center of television broadcasting, book publishing, advertising, and other facets of mass communication.

New York is composed of five big boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Richmond and Queen’s.
Manhattan is the most famous and biggest borough in the New York. Manhattan is divided into the East Side and the West Side. The dividing line is Fifth Avenue. The avenues with lower numbers are on the East Side, the avenues with higher numbers on the West Side. Manhattan is also divided into Lower (Downtown), Midtown and Upper (Uptown) Manhattan. The most famous street in Manhattan is Wall Street, which became symbol of American capitalism, because there are the New York Stock Exchange and American Stock Exchange. There is also the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, a branch of the national bank of the United States. The Wall Street is very crowded street. The second big borought is Brooklyn. Brooklyn alone has so many people that if it were a separate city, it would be the fourth largest city in the USA.

Tourism is a major local industry, with hundreds of attractions. Many visitors make it a point to visit the Empire State Building, Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge, Metropolian Museum, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Hayden Planetarium.

The Statue of Liberty. It`s the best known statue in North America and maybe in the world. It stands on Liberty Island in the inner harbour of New York Bay.
Statue is huge and it shows a woman holding tablet in left hand and torch in right hand. Its high is 151 feet and is made of copper with steel supports. Lifts and steps take visitors to the top. There are 25 windows in the crown, which comprise the jewels beneath the seven rays of the diadem. That represent the seven oceans and continents of world. The tablet, which woman holds in her left hand shows in Roman numerals, „July 4, 1776\", the day of America`s independence from Britain.

The city is famous for its high density and fast-paced lifestyle, there are over 28,000 acres of parkland found throughout New York City, comprising over 1,700 separate parks and playgrounds. The best known of these is Central Park, which is one of the finest examples of landscape architecture in the world, as well as a major source of recreation for New Yorkers and tourists alike. Maritime attractions include the South Street Seaport, site of a historic port, and the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum, located at a World War II aircraft carrier.

The World Trade Center was an important tourist destination before the September 11, 2001 attacks, which devastated the city and its tourist industry. The city was nearly devoid of tourists for months, and it took two years for the numbers to fully rebound with fewer international, but more domestic visitors. Now the World Trade Center site has itself become an important place for visitors to see.

With its vast cultural and educational resources, famous shops and restaurants, places of entertainment, striking and diversified architecture and parks and botanical gardens, New York draws millions of tourists every year.

Hardly a week goes by without a special event taking place in New York. In fact, there are some 50 officially recognised parades each year, along with more than 400 street fairs. Most of these fairs offer a rather unremarkable selection of fast-food stands, house plants, athletic socks and cheap belts. Times Square\'s New Year\'s Eve festivities are probably the most famous in the world. On 5 January, thousands of children wander up 5th Ave, in a cavalcade of sheep, camels and donkeys, for the Three Kings Parade.

Why is the city called \"Large Apple\"? It is because it lives there 8 million men and immigrants\' large populations from above 180 different countries on 309 square miles.

To sum up, New York is the most famous city in the world.
